Cala Ratjada fresh fish weekend
If you like fish then this is the weekend to head over to Cala Ratjada, when for three lovely days it's fish, fish, fish all the way in a fabulous food fest simply known as the 'Cap de setmana del peix fresc i la XV Mostra de la Llampuga.' I'll explain; for the last 18 years the resort, which is also a working fishing port, has paid homage to a lightning fast fish known locally as Llampuga with a festival in its honour.
Thousands of kilos of it are consumed at the festival which occurs every autumn when the fish run through Mediterranean waters near Mallorca and local fishermen earn a good living. Also known as Mahi Mahi, Dolphinfish and Dorado, it can grow quite large and is great sport for anglers. For gastronauts it's interesting because its firm white meat is flavoursome and can be cooked in all manner of ways – grilling, roasting, frying – and even eaten raw.
For the last few years the council, along with organisers Unisport Consulting (photos) have extended the event to a whole weekend of fishtastic fun from Friday to Sunday, taking place in specially erected marquees by the seafront. There's no charge to enter, all you pay for is what you eat or drink, with everything priced economically as you can gather from the crowds of people on the photo.
If you fancy it, here's the schedule;
Friday, 11th Oct, 20:00 – Tapas nightSaturday, 12th Oct, 20:00 – Paella for 1500, €5, courtesy of the fishermen

Sunday, 13th Oct, 12:00 - 16:00 and 18:00 – 22:00 – Llampuga, courtesy of over 20 of the resort's restaurants!
In addition to the food, there's plenty of entertainment from Djs and live bands, and fireworks to close the show at 22:00 on Sunday, so get along there and have a great time!
