Countdown to TaPalma

Tapas and cocktails routes

Caminantes a Tailandia

Way back in February I gave you advance warning of the 2019 edition of the big annual tapas fiesta taking place in Palma. Well, TaPalma 2019 has been officially launched at a ceremony attended by Council and Tourism big wigs with a few chefs and cocktailistas thrown in for good measure.

The official posters have been printed, the applications to participate are open, and The City Council of Palma, together with the Tourism 365 Foundation will promote the event far and wide through the tourist fairs which the city attends.

What they'll be doing is showing just how creative, delicious, well presented, and in the case of TaPalma, cheap the food in the city can be. Aiding them in this task will be the winning chef from last year's competition whipping up his creations in a 'showcooking' presentation.

The photo above is the winning tapa from last year, when over 40,000 tapas were served, eaten and enjoyed during the event. It's called 'Caminantes a Tailandia' (walkers to Thailand) from the Ombu restaurant – so put that one firmly on your personal tapa route if you're coming.

If you missed last February's article, the dates for your diary are

25th November – Tapa and cocktail competition at the Palacio de Congresos de Palma.

27th November to 1st December – Tapas routes throughout the bars of the city with economically priced tapas, wine, beer, soft drinks, and cocktails.

The timing of the event has been deliberately chosen by both the public and private sectors involved to boost the number of visitors to the city at a time when footfall is traditionally low.
