Return to La Liga 1
Football fans in Mallorca are ecstatic this morning after the island's team RCD Mallorca made a dramatic return to the Spanish first division of La Liga last night. The team which was relegated six years ago in 2013 and then dropped into the third division has finally bounced back to where they belong.
The reds were promoted from the third to the second division 2 years ago and had a patchy start to life there at the beginning of this season. However a late run of wins earned them a place in the play offs for promotion and a massive army of fans – about 12,000 – followed them to the first leg of the play offs in Galicia against Deportivo.
Despite losing 2 – nil and having a mountain to climb in the return leg, the Son Moix stadium was a sell out and tens of thousands of delirious red clad fans celebrated a famous back from the dead 3 – nil victory which ensured promotion for the reds.
So if you're visiting Mallorca next year and you'd like to see some of the best teams and players in the world in action – the Madrids, Barcelona, and famous old names like Athletic Bilbao spring to mind – then get along to Son Moix just off the ring road in Palma for some great games!
