Hostal Cuba, Palma
Watching an old film starring Joan Crawford the other day I noticed that one of the rather ritzy watering holes she visited was called the Sky Bar and it reminded me that we have our very own Sky Bar here in Palma.
The Hostal Cuba which occupies one of Palma's coolest buildings constructed in colonial style also has its own rooftop bar with sweeping views of the city and sea. It joins a growing number of bars on high where drinking and dining al fresco is given an extra frisson by spectacular cityscape and beyond vistas.
I had a couple of snifters in the Circulo de Bellas Artes rooftop bar in Madrid and can safely say that a beer tastes even better when peering over the glass towards the Sierra Guadarrama over the magnificent buildings of the capital city.
Back to Palma where, if you don't fancy standing in the dark watching the twinkling lights of the city and gigantic cruise ships and yachts coming and going you can head upstairs in the morning to enjoy a healthy breakfast.
Hostal Cuba's sky bar serves home made brekky with a view every morning from 8:30 to 10:30 in winter and 8:00 to 11:00 in summer. As it's just round the corner from the fabulous Santa Catalina market you know that all the products are super fresh with mostly local products.
Did I mention healthy? Why even the bacon and eggs have rocket salad and all the other choices look so tempting; eggs benedict, pancakes with crème fraiche, French toast with syrup. Just have a look at the menu, it's really worth getting up early for!
