Something fishy in Calvia
Fins ain't what they used to be in the holiday hotel world as research in the Spanish market has shown that around half of holidaymakers like to be 'more adventurous' and try 'new things.' So out goes lounging indolently on a pool inflatable shaped like a slice of pizza or a flamingo and in comes mermaid fins!
In an effort to provide clients with an unusual holiday experience that not only increases fitness levels but also gives those all important photo opportunities for social media the five star Zafiro Palace Hotel in Palmanova is opening a mermaid school this month.
Guests will be able to make a splash and release their inner Daryl Hannah from the 20th to 22nd of September by strapping on a fish tail and immersing themselves in an underwater world and learning to spin, roll and turn in a series of custom-made and challenging exercises – all 100% instagrammable!
As you can see from the publicity photos, the school is open to everybody, not just fair maidens and I assume that on graduation, certificates will be handed out to the new mermen, mermaids, merboys and mergirls!
Apparently, in an effort to give clients more than just an infinity pool or king size bed with black satin sheets, hotels in far flung corners of the world like Mexico and Japan, have opened mermaid schools as an experience to brag about and show off on Facebook and the like.
Well, if you fancy spending a couple of days getting wrinkly, you know where to go, and here's my tip – don't go into the Zafiro's sushi bar with your fish tail on!
