Palma's biggest Jazz fest

the original blues brothers band

Autumn sees the island's biggest indoor Jazz festival taking place for the 11th time when the Jazz Voyeur Festival graces a couple of venues in Palma with some big names from the Jazz world. It kicks off with music from a fantastic film that had everything; car chases, nuns, Nazis, sunglasses, rocket launchers, pork pie hats, and both kinds of music – rhythm AND blues!

Yes, the Blues Brothers, the film that spawned a thousand tribute acts, and whose band were put back together on a mission from God provide the opening to this year's JVF when The Original Blues Brothers Band stride onto the stage when hopefully, no chicken wire will be required.

Now with only two original members from the film, Steve "The Colonel" Cropper on guitar and Lou "Blue Lou" Marini on sax, the band is nevertheless comprised of some very accomplished musicians. Cropper played guitar with Booker T and the MGs, the Stax label's house band and also co-wrote some of the best songs ever - "Knock on Wood" with Eddie Floyd, "In the Midnight Hour" with Wilson Pickett and "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" with Otis Redding!

In addition you can also catch Chucho Valdés, the Cuban pianist, the San Francisco Jazz Collective, 8 accomplished musicians who come together each year to perform fresh arrangements from modern Jazz masters.
