Strauss, Ballet and Gospel
Palma Auditorium has a great trio of shows to look forward to after Christmas as we celebrate the first few days of 2018. The line up features the Johann Strauss Orchestra on the 2nd January, the Ballet de Moscu on the 3rd and 4th and the Alabama Gospel Choir on the 5th.
As always, the Auditorium – centrally located on Palma's seafront – kicks off the new year with its traditional New Year's Day concert by the Johann Strauss Orchestra. It's like a taste of old Vienna, with waltzes, ballroom dancers, fleckerls, and marches, but without the cream cakes and mutton chop whiskers! You'll hear all the famous musical themes of Strauss – The Blue Danube, Radetzky March, Napoleon Waltz and more – and thrill to the nimble footwork of the Ballet ensemble as over 5 million others have over the last 28 years.
The Ballet de Moscu seem to be on an everlasting tour of Spain and they call into Palma once again to perform Swan Lake on the 3rd and The Nutcracker on the 4th. The dedication this company puts into its performances is amazing and I continue to be astounded by the physical prowess and control of the dancers. If you've never seen ballet before, give it a try, it's incredible!
Finally the massed voices – 20 of them – join forces as the Alabama Gospel Choir calls in on its 19th tour. Singing traditional numbers from as far back as the 19th century and right bang up to date with some soul and funk, the 'Oh Happy Day' concert is really one to see.
In Palma around new year? Then why not go, the concerts are great value for money. The details of times and prices are all online at the Auditorium website where you can book online.
