Via Crucis at Palma Cathedral
It's Holy Week in Mallorca and all over the island solemn religious processions are taking place where pointy-hatted/hooded penitents parade through the streets carrying heavy religious statues on their shoulders. Our video will give you an idea of the occasions, with flowers, sorrowful music and the shackled gait of the penitents.
In Palma a medieval tradition takes place on Easter Sunday at noon, when the Via Crucis, a passion play dealing with the suffering, death, and resurrection of Christ is acted out on the steps at the side of the mighty Gothic cathedral. It's an extremely moving spectacle and draws big crowds to the area each year.
It's well worth delaying eating your Cadbury's eggs if you're on the island and taking a trip to the cathedral to see it.
