Palma's big tapas fest set for October
In what must be a world record for advance warning of an attractive event, the organisers of the TaPalma festival have already announced the dates for this year's gastro shindig which will take place over 6 days from 16th to 21st October inclusive.
It's the 13th edition of this fabulous tapas fiesta and won't be unlucky for some at all as they've squeezed an extra couple of days onto the normal 4 day fiesta. So from Monday to Saturday lucky visitors to Palma and those who already live there will be able to enjoy a cornucopia of tiny gastro treats courtesy of around 50 bars who will be providing tapas and drinks at really economical prices.
It's all very well organised with manageable gourmet routes planned out in the different areas of Palma where you can enjoy this most convivial way of dining and sample the friendly atmosphere that this style of eating promotes. As I said, the food and drink won't make a hole in your wallet, but even better, there's a competition to find the best tapa so the bars pull out all the stops to provide the tastiest, most enticing food on the evening so everybody benefits.
The announcement was made at the big FITUR travel trade fair in Madrid, so it just shows how much the Mallorcan authorities value gastro tourism, and to help make it they drafted in last year's winner Óscar Fontan of the Ca Na Joana restaurant to show off his winning tapa.
He made 'Scallop in tempura flavoured with Kaffir tomato sponge and parmesan with octopus braised in kimchee and sea air' which as you can see, looks absolutely fantastic, and even more so when you think that it, and a glass of wine was only a couple of Euros in TaPalma!
Oscar will be representing Mallorca in the national tapas and pinchos competition held in Valladolid later this year, so good luck to him for that and let's hope we can all sample his winning tapa or latest creation in October this year.
