Ice rink at Port Adriano
I can't think of any physical activity more Christmassy than ice skating. It seems to embody everything about a typical Christmas, typical if you live in one of those snowy, frosty, northern European countries that is. Well, if you're unlucky enough to be in Mallorca and not Lapland this festive season, you can try your hand, or should that be foot, at a bit of the old Torville and Dean routine.
Port Adriano, Mallorca's top designer yacht harbour courtesy of Philippe Stark, has just constructed (photo) and opened Mallorca's biggest ecological ice skating rink on a nice flat bit in its wonderful installations. So now, not only can discerning diners and shoppers enjoy the great restaurants, bars and retail outlets, but they'll be able to practice a touch of free skating!
And when I say free, I mean it in both senses of the word as skaters will have the freedom to do exactly as they please from clumsy falls to a double Axel, triple toe loop, or triple Salchow jump without the worry of pleasing a panel of dour East German judges on performance and execution. It's also totally free to use and will not cost one cent, even for the use of the skates provided for kids and adults from the age of 4 upwards.
It's open every day from 11 to 21 until 8th January, apart from Christmas and New Year's Eves when it closes at 18 o'clock. Sounds like great fun. I'd love to give it a go, how about you?
