Two more stars in the culinary firmament
If it's November it must be the most joyous, nailbitingly nervous month of the year for everyone involved in the upper reaches of gastronomy, and it's nothing to do with Black Friday bargains. It is of course the time of year when tyre company Michelin dishes out its coveted stars to restaurants all over the world.
Originally intended to form part of the company's motoring guide, the stars have taken on much more significance these days than their original purpose of where to stop for a bite to eat on your horseless carriage ride around the country.
The good news for Mallorca this year is that every single one of the eight stars its restaurants had last year is retained, and there are two new ones awarded. Adrian Quetglas who has already garnered other awards for his restaurant bearing his name in Palma's Paseo de Mallorca gets his star after only 18 months on the island since returning from Russia. The second new star comes in from completely left field as Argos, in the La Goleta del Mar Hotel in Puerto Pollensa, is awarded the prestigious prize for the consistently great food (Facebook photo – roast octopus) produce by chef Alvaro Salazar.

and if you're wondering why there are only nine restaurants and ten stars, it's because Zaranda has two all to itself!
I think it's a great achievement for the island, and when I say island I really do mean the whole of Mallorca, because as you can see, the stars are not all concentrated in the capital Palma, but all over.
