Seven decades of Cruceros Marco Polo
The cityscape of Palma is truly spectacular from the sea, dominated by the mighty Gothic cathedral to one side and Bellver Castle at the other. Between them there are windmills on high, luxury hotel and apartment blocks, enormous city walls and all along the harbour, thousands of yachts, giant cruise ships, multi-million dollar mega-yachts and military craft.
Now, if you fancy seeing this awe inspiring sight you don't have to arrive in Mallorca by ferry, cruise ship or your very own mega-yacht, you can take a €12 cruise on the good ship Mar y Sol II. It belongs to Cruceros Marco Polo, owned by the same family since the 60's, who have run the same route around Palma's bay and harbour during seven decades!
Lasting one hour, the trip on the 87 seater Mar y Sol II takes in the fishing quay, the Yacht Club, the Paseo Marítimo, Bellver Castle, Club de Mar, Port, Porto Pí Naval Base, San Carlos Castle and a stunning view of Palma Cathedral and the Almudaina Palace. Take your camera and you may be lucky enough to spot some unusual visitors to the harbour such as the Philippe Stark designed, Russian billionaire owned, mega-yacht A, or The Big E, the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier that you can see in our gallery.
So, for a breath of salt tangy air, magnificent views and a spot of boat spotting, what not spend a pleasant hour on this cruise. It leaves from just by the Moll Vell (opposite La Lonja) from Monday to Saturday, every hour on the hour, from 11:00 to 16:00 during the holiday season.
