Banyalbujazz on Thursdays in July and August
The west coast village of Banyalbufar is holding its annual Jazz festival starting this week which gives everyone a great opportunity to experience some live music combined with stunning sunsets in a picturesque setting. Perched on cliffs in the Sierra Tramuntana mountains, the attractive stone built houses and bars have spectacular views over the Med and the rich agricultural terraces used to cultivate the malvasia grape.
The four concerts in this year's festival take place alternately in two different settings; the town's main plaza and the beautiful Port d'es Canonge, way down below at sea level. Last year the festival was dedicated to the recently deceased BB King and this year we pay homage to Britains blue-eyed bluesman, old slowhand himself, Eric Clapton!
All four concerts are free, and not for nothing did I mention grape growing above, as everyone gets to sample the local vino at the gigs too, and they are
21 July, Monkey Doo at the port
28 July, Savejazz in town (photo)
04 August, Sebastian Raimundo Quartet at the port
11 August, Eric Clapton Special in town
and they all start at 20:30 to include the sunset!
If you're in Mallorca, why not take a trip over to sample the atmosphere in, as the festival's strapline goes, “a place to awaken your senses.”
