A selection of excellent wines in an atmospheric setting
It's the 13th annual wine fair in Pollensa this weekend when not only wine professionals, but we the public, get to sample the best of what Mallorca has to offer. No less than 38 bodegas (wine producers,) a couple more than last year, will be on hand in the beautiful cloister of the Santo Domingo convent in the centre of Pollensa with litres of their best wines ripe for the tasting!
The dates for your diary are next Saturday and Sunday 16th and 17th April when the fair will kick of with a rather sedate, professionals only session until noon when we amateur wine lovers are allowed in until 20:30 and on Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00.
It will cost a mere €10 to get in and you'll get a glass, yours to keep as a souvenir, to put your fancied wines, a brochure with all the information about the bodegas and their wines, a pencil to make copious notes and some brochures with local tourist info in. It also includes a €3 discount on any bottle of wine you may wish to purchase while you're there.
It's a great opportunity for the local wine producers – big, small, old and new – to show off their wares to both the pros and the public, and as I said before the colonnaded cloister is a beautiful, inspiring setting to sip a wine or two.
If you're on holiday in Puerto Pollensa, the town of Pollensa itself – a fascinating place – is only 15 minutes away by regular bus services and is well worth a trip even when there isn't something special like this happening. The 340 and 345 buses run a regular route to Pollensa from the port, give it a whirl.
