Two big nautical events, two big food events – together!
Spring certainly is the time for all things sailing in Palma. Next week as we know, the Palma Superyacht show is on from 28th April to 2nd May with dozens of large yachts vying for our attention at the Moll Vell. It's a glamorous occasion which brings a boost to Palma's economy and it's also a chance for the city's restaurants to show off their wares at the port itself.
Well over a dozen of Palma's finest eateries will be represented in little marquees at the yacht show in the annual Tapamar food fair. Don't be completely fooled by the title as not all the food will be seafood and it won't all be tapas! From around 10 in the morning until midnight (depends on the individual marquee) a whole range of food will be served up in tapa, plate or special menu form, and all at reasonable prices.
Two days later the big Palma Vela regatta takes place from 4th to 8th May with around 1500 competitors taking part in daily events. It's a marvellous sight to behold with hundreds of sailing boats in the bay, and it's yet another opportunity for the city to promote its tourist offer. The Restaurants' Association are taking advantage of the regatta by offering specially priced meals under the banner 'Saborea Palma Vela.'
Twenty restaurants located near the Royal Nautical Club of Palma will be serving up the special three course meals with wine provided by some of Mallorca's smaller wine producers. As yet the details of the restaurants and prices haven't been announced – my plan is to just go along and enjoy. How about you?
