Top chef Carlos Duran cooks up '8 Sensations'
One of the best aspects of Mallorca's gastronomy scene is that it is not 'Palma-centric' and that good food can be found all over the island, from traditional rustic cuisine to the most modern methods of cooking and presenting food. Next week, the small but perfectly formed beach resort of Canyamel (it means sugar cane) hosts one of Spain's top chefs who'll be cooking a special meal at the Cap Vermell Beach Hotel.
Carlos Duran from one of Madrid's most highly regarded eateries, Champagne Charlie, is in Mallorca to promote his new book, Cocina Canalla, and prepare some examples of his craft at a special dinner called '8 Sensations.' Duran, who is also captain of the Spanish national cooking team, known as “la Roja gastronómica” (The Gastro Reds – like The Reds of the football team) and will be cooking alongside Manu Pereira, chef at the Vintage 34 restaurant in the hotel.
Starting at 20:00 on 3rd March, the 8 Sensations meal consists of 8 courses with amuse bouche, salad, seafood, meat, eggs, and desserts with a maridaje (marriage) of wine to suit and because Champagne Charlie is in charge, samples of Sanger bubbly! If this, along with our photo gallery, doesn't whet your appetite, then let me tell you that the cost for all this is ONLY €45!
Carlos Duran's cookery book, which has already sold over 10,000 copies, will presented during the evening, so you can bag yourself a signed copy, ideal for your coffee table when friends come round to dine.
