Superb Jazz Watercolours in Palma

Painting Jazz stars for charity

There's a great exhibition of watercolour paintings of some of the most iconic stars of the Jazz genre just opened in Palma. Hosted by the Sa Nostra Cultural Centre in Calle Concepcion in the city centre, the exhibition is a wonderful pictorial record of some of the coolest people in Jazz, and is also raising money for charity.

The artist, Jaume Salvadiego, a graphic designer by trade, has a passion for Jazz and has had his work displayed previously at the Sa Pobla annual Jazz fest in Mallorca. He's built up a superb portfolio of paintings over the years and now has his portraits of the likes of Charles Mingus, Sonny Rollins, Thelonius Monk, John Coltrane, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Serge Gainsbourg, Chet Baker, Dee-Dee Bridgewater and McCoy Tyner, which can be seen here.

His exhibition forms part of a wider programme of activities in the centre called 'The Sound of Silence' which aims to raise money for the charitable association, APNAB-Gaspar Hauser which helps autistic kids. For his part, Jaume has had reproductions made of his watercolours which are on sale at the exhibition; 30 x 40 at €80 and 20 x 30 at €25, and as you can see from the Billie Holiday print I've used, they would look rather splendid on your wall.

You can see the paintings at Sa Nostra until 16th October from Monday to Friday 11 to 20 and Saturday 11 to 14. The centre itself is worth visiting for its splendid architecture – an 18th century patio and a modernist facade from a reform made in the early 20th century.

See you there?
