Everything's coming up octopus in Portocolom this weekend
Munich may have its Oktoberfest but here in Mallorca we have our very own Octopusfest dedicated to this tasty eight-legged sea creature. Portocolom, a small fishing village and now holiday resort which sits on a giant bay, holds this extremely successful homage to Octopi every year to mark the start of summer.
And when I say successful, I mean really successful, as the number of bars and restaurants taking part seems to grow every year, attracting more visitors and with lots more entertainment to keep everyone happy. This is the fourth edition of the fair and 41 eateries, spread all along the shores of the bay, are taking part.
From this Friday, 26th June until Sunday 28th, you'll be able to taste and try delicious octopus dishes, large and small, in bars, restaurants and even bakeries which have prepared a myriad of different plates – from pinchos to tapas to main meals and even pastries – ranging from as little as €1.50 to €14.
The eateries are open at various times of the day, some are even open at the crack of dawn, and you can find a list of them all with prices, menus, opening times and map on the special Octopus PDF that the council have produced.
You'll also find a list of all the entertainment; live music in thebars andon the street, DJs, comedy, a Moet & Chandon champagne day and lots of dancing. Sounds good to me, and well worth a trip there if you're staying nearby or lucky enough to be in Portocolom itself.
