Spectacular lighthouse viewing point

Lighthouse with breath-taking views to open to the public

Visitors to Puerto Andratx will soon be able to enjoy some of the most spectacular views on Mallorca thanks to an agreement between the council and the Ports Authority. The latter is responsible for all the lighthouses in the Balearic Islands and have just agreed to let Andratx council use El Faro de la Mola (Mola Lighthouse) as a public viewing point.

Perched on the edge of one of the most precipitously precipitous cliffs you could care to imagine, the lighthouse is 128 metres above sea level, plus another 10 metres high and can be seen by ships from 12 nautical miles away. Presumably, and conversely, the views FROM the lighthouse stretch for 12 nautical miles over the clear blue sea and mountains all around it.

Andratx council will have to pay the princely sum of €196 per year to occupy the 40 year old lighthouse – the youngest in the Balearics – and in return will have to maintain it and secure the viewing platform looking over the steep cliff to ensure it meets all safety standards.

If you're not impressed by the photos of La Mola from above, take a look at these 360 degree images on the Balearic Lighthouses Webpage. Well. Would you go, I sure would, it looks fantastic!
