Yet another superb hotel is due to open in one of the many historic buildings in Palma.

Yet another superb hotel is due to open in one of the many historic buildings in Palma. The Can Alomar Luxury Boutique Hotel will open in May in what is one of the city's most beautiful buildings and on probably the best real estate in Palma. Located right on the Paseo del Borne, the wonderful tree and exclusive shop lined square, dotted with the terraces of elegant cafes and bistros, the hotel has views to die for.

The building had lain empty and abandoned for three decades until the Ibosa Group took on the complex project of renovating what was once a 15th Century Palace up to today's modern standards. Originally known as Can Thomás des Predís des Born (can means house in Catalan) after its owners the wealthy Thomás merchant family, the building which began life as a Gothic mansion was extended and restored in the Baroque style over the next two centuries.

After it was acquired by the Alomars in the 19th century it was significantly restored and took on the aspect that we see today. Its present restoration dates back to 2009 and has been carefully achieved in stages, the first of which came to fruition when Louis Vuiton and Uterque moved shops into Can Alomar last year.

Now, the rest of the building – listed because it is part of the city's artistic and architectural heritage – will house the new hotel under the stewardship of the owners of two of Palma's best hotels, Can Cera and Calatrava. Not only does the man behind these two, Miguel Conde Moragues, have excellent knowledge and experience of the hospitality industry, he also has a great team, 'all in the family.' With one of Spain's top interior designers, his mother Cecilia, and an architect, wife Cristina on board, it's a winning combination, as the success of his existing hotels proves.

Can Alomar, judging by the artist's impressions will have the typically understated elegance befitting the existing architecture and of course all of those little luxuries we enjoy on a sophisticated city break. Under the strapline of 'the pleasure of feeling at home,' the hotel has only 16 stylish rooms consisting of deluxe doubles/twins, Junior Suites and Suites.

Everything has been thought of to make the spacious accommodation more than a home form home with Smart TV, Bose bluetooth speakers, free minibar and a choice pillow firmness to name just a few. Guests will be able to relax in the lounge or library, be pampered in the SPA, located on the rooftop sun terrace with commanding views of the city, and enjoy some of the finest food in the restaurant with Borne side terrace!

I want to live there!
