Thanks to modern technology smart phone users can have the whole of Mallorca's public transport system in their pocket with the aid of two new apps. Available on iTunes and Google Play, the IOS and
Android apps will help visitors and locals alike plane their journeys all around the city of Palma and all across Mallorca itself.
The first App – Transport Mallorca – is the equivalent of having a giant timetable for all public transport on the island with you all the time. Whether you want to travel by bus, train, metro and
even the Soller train and tram, all the information on routes and timetables is contained within.
With only one train and one metro line in Mallorca, planning a journey is relatively easy, however with the more numerous bus services, the timetables are given for different sectors of the island
where the bus numbers correspond to the sector number as the photo illustrates.
In Palma itself, the transport authority for the city has now released its real time information App which we told you about some weeks ago. Just search – EMT
Palma – it's free and as you can see from the photo it gives the information about the arrival of buses for every stop in the system.
For me the only bugbear is that you have to know the number of the stop, information which is not on the app, but on the main EMT website! However, once armed with the relevant numbers, planning
journeys across or around the city is a cinch.
Give the apps a try if you're visiting the island.
Note: The Apple Apps are available for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. I used screen shots from my iPad in this article.
