Getting around Palma by bus really is easy and it's going to get even easier this year. EMT, the Palma municipal bus company already uses modern technology via its website so that Palmesanos and
tourists alike can plan their journeys to a T.
Using maps on the site travellers can locate which stop – they're all individually numbered - they need to travel from and to, or to make life easier for visitors, it's possible to find which buses
go nearest to all the main tourist sites.
All the bus stops in Palma have information screens which tell passengers in real time how long it is until the bus actually arrives. Technicians from EMT and a specialist company are now working
together to produce a free smartphone app which will provide all this information on your own small screen – so no more running to the bus stop only to find you've 15 minutes to spare!
It's hoped the app, free on android and ios platforms will be available in June, at least in Beta form. Visitors to Palma needn't worry about racking up large 3G roaming bills as, don't forget,
Palma council has many free Wi-Fi hotspots in the main tourist areas of the city for those in desperate need of checking bus times and then tweeting about them!
For people like me who don't have smartphones, the real time information will also be available on the EMT Website,
just choose your own language.
