Palma's cycle pool scheme which has been running successfully for a couple of years now
Palma's cycle pool scheme which has been running successfully for a couple of years now will become available to tourists in the city from next year. At present the use of the 336 bikes based in 28
parking stations has been restricted to citizens of Palma, but all this will change soon.
If you read our news regularly, you'll know that BiciPalma – like many other similar schemes throughout Europe – is designed to encourage the
use of bikes as an environmentally friendly alternative to car journeys for short hops around the city.
To do this, users pay an annual fee for a chipped card which is used to unhook the bikes from their parking space. The first 30 minutes usage is completely free, but if the bike is returned to any
station after this period there is a sliding charge for its use.
Next year tourists will be able to join BiciPalma for short periods – €9 for 3 days and €12 for 7 days – and should be able to get anywhere they wish in the city in less than half an hour to avoid
any further charges.
The council will have to speed up the convoluted and time laden process of joining the scheme to make it easier for tourists who only have a few days in the city to be able to use it successfully
and we'll publish the details when we know them. Watch this space!
