Sea food and sea views
With super duper sports ports like Puerto Portals and Port Adriano packed with shops, bars and restaurants, it's easy to forget that Mallorca's smaller ports and marinas can compete just as well on the foodie front. Over in the Cala Nova area of Palma, just a short hop from the city centre you'll find a really stylish new restaurant perched on the harbourside at Cala Nova Marina.
Muelle 327 Gastrodock has been garnering an excellent reputation in only the few months since it opened for its food, service and fantastic location. At the edge of the marina, it enjoys beautiful vistas of the glistening yachts bobbing at anchor on the starboard side and the open sea and little cove portside!
Open from 8 until midnight it offers a relaxed Mediterranean style in a warm, friendly atmosphere and serves up authentic Mallorcan and Spanish flavours throughout the day. You can saver freshly caught fish, delicious rice dishes or aged meat from the north of Spain cooked to perfection on the Josper – a mix of BBQ and oven which produces the best steaks ever!
Dining is done portside with a choice of sol or sombra in a nice, modern, uncluttered setting and a look at the menu (only in Spanish and Catalan online) will tell you that the prices are excellent vis a vis the quality of the food, service, décor and setting!
Open all day for healthy breakfasts, brunches, lunches, afternoon snacks and dinner, there's also a stylish sky bar on the top deck for informal lunches or relaxing with an aperitif or cocktail after a hard day on the beach, sailing or dare I say it, work? With 360 degree views of the sea and the city it's a superb place to 'chill' as the young people would say.
I don't know about you, but the menu and photos have certainly got me itching to try it, and even my wife, who hates public transport, says she go despite having to go home on the number 3 bus to Palma!
