Be prepared to have your heart well and truly stolen by the Winner of The Prettiest Village in Spain – Fornalutx (pronounced Fornalutch). From the moment you spot the red tiled roofs of the stone terraced houses tumbling down the hillside you just know you're in for a treat.
Explore the narrow alleyways, marvel at the architecture, gasp at the perfect village square guarded by the imposing church and wander aimlessly down, past the ancient public washing house, to the often roaring river beyond.
This picture perfect village, set in the most stunning of locations, is a sleepy hamlet whose shady streets offer a welcome break on a hot summer's day. Much beloved by cyclists and walkers it can be easily reached from Soller along country paths or for the more energetic take the route up and over the mountains via Biniraix, another delightful little town worth seeing.
Fornalutx is well known for the number of quality restaurants it hosts, so warm summer nights throb with the chitter chatter of happy diners and the cobbled streets and square come alive. It may be pretty but it also has soul and that makes it all the more special.
Spotlight Tip: Park in one of the car parks on the outskirts of the village as the narrow roads are not car friendly.
