Each year Palma council helps to reduce the number of unwanted pets
Each year Palma council helps to reduce the number of unwanted pets which are abandoned on the city's streets by subsidising sterilisation operations. Over 5000 cats and dogs a year are left for
the authorities to deal with in the animal sanctuary, which is, as you can imagine, an expensive and time consuming business.
The council have set aside €10,000 to part cover the cost of each operation with a subsidy of €50 – which means the sterilisation is done for around half price. Pet owners need to bring a receipt
for the operation from their vet and will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis to get the subsidy.
It's a great idea, but what a shame only 200 animals can be treated per year.
