Two out of the top ten Spanish best brunches are in Mallorca
Brunch, the very word conjures up lazy days when you've nothing more pressing to do than get up late, lounge around and have a leisurely session around the 'breakfast-come-lunch' table. An original idea of the British Downton Abbey set a couple of hundred years ago, the concept -for it is a good one - spread way beyond the bounds of the landed gentry and now anyone can enjoy a late morning pick-me-up.
Here in Mallorca a couple of hotels have been lauded for their excellent Sunday Brunches by the users of web portal Trivago who voted for their top ten in all Spain where doing nothing on a Sunday has been honed to a fine art. The hotels, considered as having the most original, exclusive, traditional yet daring brunches were OD Port Portals (photo) in second position, and HM Jaime III in ninth.
Traditionally, brunch commences with some light, healthy breakfast style bites and as the meal continues it becomes more 'lunchy.' With its Mediterranean climate, food and lifetyle, Mallorca is the idea brunch destination and both hotels use many island grown products, bursting with healthy goodness and sunshine with the addition of a few little extras like a Bloody Mary or glass of Cava!
Both hotels offer relaxed, informal, buffet style brunches with lots of fruits, cereals, cold meats, cheese, bread, oil, tomatoes and at Jaime III, paella. It's a perfect way to relax after an exciting Saturday night on the town or in preparation for a stroll around the city's cultural hot spots or an afternoon boating on the Med.
